Move Macropod to another PC

Export, carry one file across, import on the new machine. Recovery code unlocks the data.

Bindings, profiles, the license cache, and the encrypted device data all live in one local file. Moving them is one export on the old PC and one import on the new one. The recovery code from your first activation is what unlocks the imported bundle. Plan two minutes start to finish.

  1. Export from the old PC

On the source PC, open Settings, then Data and migration, then Migrate to another PC. The modal offers two action cards: Export and Import. Click Export and pick a destination folder. Macropod writes one file: Macropod.migration. Move it to the new PC any way that works: USB stick, cloud drive, or network share.

    Settings, Data and migration, Export.
  2. Recovery code on the new PC

Drop the Macropod.migration file next to Macropod.exe on the new PC, or anywhere on the desktop. Launch Macropod. A "Restore your data" prompt appears on its own. (Missed the auto-detect? Open the same Settings, Data and migration panel and click Import to pick the file by hand.) The prompt asks for the recovery code from the source PC. Type or paste it; spacing and dashes are ignored.

Recovery code unlocks the imported data.
  3. Migration completes

The import unlocks the bundle, writes a fresh local seal keyed to the new Windows account, and rebuilds the database. When it finishes, Macropod restarts on its own. The cockpit loads with every profile, binding, and macro from the source PC.

Import lands and the main UI loads.
  4. Source file becomes .migration.restored

After a successful import, the original .migration file is renamed with a .restored suffix. The rename does two jobs at once: it leaves a paper trail so you know the import succeeded, and it stops Macropod from re-importing the same bundle on the next start. The renamed file is safe to delete once the new PC is settled.

Used migration file gets a .restored suffix.

One thing to remember: each license covers two active devices. The migration moves the data, but the source PC is still registered until you deactivate it there. If you have used both slots, open Settings, About, Deactivate this PC on the source first, then activate on the new PC. Bindings stay intact during deactivation; only the registration is released.
